Riecine La Gioia 2016

First interpretations of the estate’s top bottling may have you second-guessing your glass of wine: is this Sangiovese from Tuscany’s spiritual heartland, or have they mistakenly sent me high-elevation, stony, 1er Cru Burgundy from 1000km away? Hauntingly elegant, pillow-soft, yet distinctly stoney and taught, the Riecine di Riecine begins with seductive, satin-like sweet rose aromas and otherworldly soft pink fruits, flowing forward into a mid and back-palate of gentle acidic tension and sappy red fruit, the finish tightening with bitter orange and tree bark spices.
