The stretch upper wraps closely around the forefoot, five individual openings allow the toes to move naturally, and a padded vegan micro-suede pad protects the ball of the foot through turns and floorwork. An additional instep elastic adds security without taking away from MD21's light, second-skin feel.

MD21 begins with a flexible nylon-spandex upper designed to contour closely around the forefoot. Its lightweight, breathable construction keeps coverage minimal while allowing the foot to articulate freely through pointing, flexing and travelling movement.

Five individual openings leave the toes free rather than enclosing them inside a conventional half shoe. This allows more natural toe separation and spreading, preserving an important part of the barefoot experience during balance, weight transfer and floorwork.

Under the ball of the foot sits MD21's defining feature: a padded vegan micro-suede forefoot pad. It provides protection from direct floor friction while creating the grip-to-glide relationship needed for turns, without using a traditional suede leather sole.
